Some people think that the first cocktail was mixed in New Orleans. Whether that’s true or not, we certainly showed the rest of the world how it’s done on Monday July 13 when The Museum of the American Cocktail celebrated the start of Tales of the Cocktail with our annual State of the Art cocktail extravaganza. Starring 18 bartenders from around the New Orleans area, attendees were treated to a variety of delicious hand crafted cocktails featuring Diageo brands. The creative beverages flowed, delicious hors d'oeuvres disappeared fast, and everyone was awed by the presentation of a Tanqueray No. TEN® Imperial Shaker by Jason Crawley to MOTAC's New Orleans collection. Mixologist Eric Ribeiro shook up an amazing Ramos Gin Fizz in this one-of-a-kind device, which is now on display in the museum.
For the second year in a row, we asked our attendees to vote on their favorite cocktail. The people have spoken, and they weren't satisfied with picking just one favorite. The tied winners of the MOTAC State of the Art People's Choice award are: the Tiki Tolteka Team of Derek Brumfield & Nathan Dalton AND Amber Dawn Peterson. Tiki Tolteka brought their tiki game with the very strong and very tasty Tiki Torcher, featuring Ron Zacapa Rum, sweet vermouth, and fresh juices. Amber Dawn went for fall flavors with her deliciously refreshing Wicked Delicious cocktail, featuring Ketel One, cranberry juice, Apfel Liqueur and a sweetly apple-y garnish. Congratulations to our winners! Thanks to all of the voters who gave their opinion, the bartenders who gave us such difficult choices, and as always, our fantastic team of volunteers for keeping everything running smoothly.
