Wednesday, October 25, 2017, was a big night for the Southern Food & Beverage Museum and the National Food & Beverage Foundation.
We recognized the latest additions to the National Culinary Heritage Register. Dooky Chase’s Restaurant, C. S. Steen Syrup Mill Inc., Luzianne Coffee and Tea, Rouses Markets, Wayne Jacob’s Smokehouse, and Domino Sugar’s Chalmette Refinery became the latest members of the Register.
Dickie Brennan delivered the keynote address in the latest edition of our Contemporary Issues in Food and Drink Lecture Series presented by Domino Foods, Inc. Dickie illustrated Louisiana and New Orleans’ unique legacy as an incubator of culinary traditions through the story of how his family of Irish immigrants founded a French fine dining restaurant and became pillars of New Orleans’ culinary landscape. He also gave a humorous account of his time as chairman and witnesses to the foundation and growth of SoFAB.
Writer and producer, Nancylee Myatt shared a bit about her experience as a transplant to New Orleans and the love she shares with her adopted home for its food and beverage culture.
Current Chairman of the National Food & Beverage Foundation, Butler Burdine gave a sneak peek at some of the exciting things instore for the Southern Food & Beverage Museum in the next year.
Coming up in 2018, we are planning many new and exciting events and activities to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, the New Orleans Tricentennial, and as always, the rich heritage of Southern food. Each month we will highlighting the various facets of the National Food & Beverage Foundation including our Kids Programming, the Boyd Library, Entrepreneurship Program, the opening of the Gumbo Garden, and more! Additionally, we will be announcing special programs, exhibits, and events throughout the year.
