There are 654 titles in the Chef Paul Prudhomme Collection, published in English, French, Italian, Japanese, Swedish, Dutch, Spanish, German and Mandarin Chinese. Faculty from Tulane, Loyola University and Columbia University have helped with translations, as has our own Mireille-Anne Jouanaud. There’s even one book in Braille! Many of the Chef Paul books have notes and inscriptions from the authors, thanking him for playing such a large part in their careers.
The Chef Paul titles have been inventoried and are ready to go to the New Orleans Public Library to be added to the catalogue, with a SoFAB designation. They’ll be integrated with the SoFAB books, identified by a special sticker to designate that they’re part of the Chef Paul collection.
In July 2010 Chef Kenneth Smith, formerly of the Upperline Restaurant, donated his professional library to the Boyd Library. These titles, about 350, are currently being inventoried, to get ready to follow the Chef Paul collection to the New Orleans Public Library for addition to the catalogue. Chef Kenneth had some pretty great baking titles, and his too, with have a special sticker to indicate they came from him.
Next up? The generous cookbook donation from Poppy Tooker! Talk about an embarrassment of riches!!
There are very few duplicates within these 3 special collections – they all add depth to our holdings, and help make the Boyd Library a real resource for culinary and beverage researchers.
