'Tis the season to....support your local businesses! Each year we focus on the cool stuff we have in the gift shop, and I tell you the things that I myself pick up for my friends and family. Don't worry, I'm going to do that, but I also want to invite you to give an experience.
Admission passes make excellent stocking stuffers, and are $10.50 per person. The foodies in your life might like a membership to the Southern Food and Beverage Museum/Museum of the American Cocktail, so that they can enjoy access to our Saturday demos and a discounted rate to our amazing food and cocktail programs. Memberships can be purchased both online here or in person at the front desk. If you're purchasing a membership for another person, give us a call at 504-267-7490!
For those who want to taste in addition to learning, passes to our Monday and Thursday demonstrations can be purchased by calling the museum at 504-569-0405 or coming into the Museum. We have our Classic Creole class on Monday, and our new Italian Creole class on Thursdays. Each class is $40 and comes with a guided tour of the Museum! For the budding chefs in your life, you can purchase a pass to any of our Kids in the Kitchen programs, which are each $20 per class. Send your 7-15 year olds our way to learn basic cooking skills and gain confidence in the kitchen!
Now onto what I'm getting for my people this year. First of all, I haven't gotten my sister an okra alligator ornament yet. Made by local artist Annie O'Dell, these ornaments are made out of okra she's grown in her garden, dried and then painted to look like alligators. They are hilarious and adorable and are the perfect remember-when-you-lived-in-Louisiana gift, or maybe it's a Remember, I live in Louisiana....gift. Either way, it will look perfect on your tree.
For our locals, I would suggest our Raw Honey. Nothing says, I care about you and your allergies like getting a friend a tasty jar of preventative pollen! But in all seriousness, David Young and his farm are one of the coolest things going on in the area, and the internet seems to think so too! If you haven't checked out his viral video, give it a go! 4.5 oz- $5, 1.8 oz- $3.75. You can also pair it with Short Stack's Honey cookbook, which retails for $14 and is a funky, cool cookbook full of honey recipes.
Savor the South has a series of cute little hardback books each featuring centering around a different ingredient from the South. Pecans, Greens, Buttermilk, Catfish are just a few, but there are also some that harken to family traditions, such as Southern Holidays, and Southern Desserts. Savor the South cookbooks range from $18-$19.
We also have SoFAB Aprons available for the first Christmas! These are sturdy, pocketed, forest green protectors of the pants(uit), and are only $20! Would work great with a pair of passes to the Museum if you ask me. We also have our very own, salt-less SoFAB Creole Seasoning! The perfect size, this blend hits you with flavor twice, and a little goes a long way. SoFAB Creole Spice- $5.
