Food and cultural identity are richly embedded in the very soul of the city of New Orleans. And somehow it is the sharing of our common food heritage that helped salve the spirit of the people returning to New Orleans after the destruction caused by the floods that followed Hurricane Katrina.
This film was created for the awards ceremony of the James Beard Awards in 2006. It was the ceremony that followed Hurricane Katrina. The ceremony honored the collective restaurateurs of New Orleans with the annual Humanitarian Award. This was recognition that they had, by feeding first responders and by feeding the returning people of New Orleans, fostered and nurtured the city and its people.
As we approach the 10th anniversary of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and celebrate the resurrection of the city, we want to share this short film with you. Many thanks to David Aman for making it.
