Taste of Louisiana: New Orleans Lunch Demonstration

Every Monday from 11 AM to 1 PM, the Southern Food & Beverage Museum offers a weekly lunch demonstration in the state-of-the-art Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air. Presented by Liz Williams, SoFAB Founder and President, and Jyl Benson, SoFAB's Director of Culinary Programming, the demonstration class offers an in-depth look into how to create delicious, traditional dishes that can be found nowhere else in the world, while discussing their cultural and historical origins. 

We provide the traditional recipes for you to take home--but in class we show you how to "cheat" and make them easy to make too! The atmosphere is relaxed, fun, and friendly and guests are encouraged to seek advice on cooking, dining, and local interests from Liz and Jyl.

Did you know that Jambalaya was originally spelled "jumble-aia" and was not served for company because it was leftovers from previous meals?

The $40 menu includes:

  • Fresh Tomato Salad with Creole Remoulade Sauce
  • Creole Jambalaya with Chicken, Sausage, Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
  • Bananas Foster with Vanilla Ice Cream
  • French Bread with Butter
  • Iced Tea

Admission and a guided private tour of the Southern Food & Beverage Museum led by Liz Williams is included in the ticket price. If you have special dietary needs or questions, please contact Jyl Benson ( directly at least 48 hours in advance.


Please purchase your tickets at least 48 hours in advance so we can prepare for the correct number of attendees. Within 48 hours, please call the museum at 504-569-0405 to see if there is any room in the class for additional attendees.  There is a discount for SoFAB Members.
