"Tiki Talk" is a fun and informative history of tiki bars and restaurants—a cultural phenomenon born right here in Los Angeles!—highlighting some of their most famous cocktails, beginning with Don The Beachcomber in 1933 and including present day survivors such as Trader Vic's, Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar, Tonga Hut, Tiki-Ti, and Mai-Kai. Guests will taste five historic tiki cocktails and nibble on delicious dishes courtesy Momed, a cuilnary star of Atwater Village, one of Los Angeles's hottest "rediscovered" neighborhoods.

Jeffrey & Jonathan Pogash have given this presentation to the bartending and waitstaff at Dead Rabbit and BlackTail and to members of the New York Public Library and Nantucket Culinary Center. Additionally, Jonathan is the editor of the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Mr. Boston Bartender's Guide, the very last printed edition of Mr. Boston ever! He'll read quotes from the book and sign copies of this highly sought after edition of what is arguably the most popular drinks book in history.

Spirit brand partners include Don Q Rum, Monkey Shoulder Scotch, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, OM Organic Mixology, Peychaud's, and The Perfect Purée of Napa Valley.

Tickets are $40 for National Food & Beverage Foundation (NatFAB) and Bar & Spirits Industry members, $45 General Admission in advance, and $50 at the door (if available). NatFAB membership is available to all at natfab.org/membership.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Jonathan-Pogash-500x667.jpg

Jonathan Pogash, aka “The Cocktail Guru™,” is one of the industry's leading cocktail consultants and bartenders for restaurants and spirit companies. His signature cocktails can be seen and enjoyed in many of North America’s upscale cocktail lounges and restaurants. With nearly 20 years' experience in the hospitality industry, Jonathan shares his insights in the most influential publications from around the world and contributes his unique talents to morning television shows and national radio broadcasts, having numberous programs, among them as NBC’s Weekend Today and Fox & Friends.

Just as an Executive Chef may work his/her way up through the ranks “behind the line,” Jonathan has worked his way up from being a barback at The Russian Tea Room in New York to Owner & President of “The Cocktail Guru™,” a well-respected, full-service beverage consulting firm. Jonathan was trained by cocktail luminaries Steve Olson, Gary Regan, Julie Reiner, and Albert Trummer. Over the years, a style emerged, that of a career bartender interested in studying technique, cocktail history, fresh ingredients, and seasonality. His inspiration lies in unique ingredients and quality, ensuring that every beverage program he creates remains consistent and thrives over time.

In addition, Jonathan and his Cocktail Guru team offer bartender services for special events, mixology classes and demonstrations, and signature drink development for weddings and othere occasions. The Cocktail Guru’s sister site, Wedding Cocktail Design, was created specifically for that couple-to-be seeking a unique specialty cocktail for their wedding.
