Cocktail Demo, and Book Signing with Jeffrey & Jonathan Pogash

Elegance in food and drink can mean different things: flavor, appearance, mood-altering effects... Join cocktail and spirits experts Jonathan & Jeffrey Pogash for the Los Angeles opening of The Age of Elegance, a collection of 19th and early 20th-century menus curated by Jeffrey Pogash. Jonathan will demonstrate a variety of elegant cocktails using some of the best spirits on the market, while Jeffrey will discuss how his vintage menu and book collecting came about.

Additionally, Jonathan is the editor of the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Mr. Boston Bartender's Guide, the very last printed edition of Mr. Boston ever! He'll read quotes from the book and sign copies of this highly sought after edition of what is arguably the most popular drinks book in history.

About the Exhibit

The Age of Elegance.jpg

The Age of Elegance exhibit comprises menus from the 19th and early 20th centuries, coming from some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the United States. Jeffrey M. Pogash has been an avid collector and student of the history of restaurants and their cuisine for the past 20 years, focusing particular attention on Delmonico's and the Waldorf Astoria, as well as other notable establishments.

From the mid-1800s to World War I, fine dining and drinking were forms of cultural expression in America. The unfolding of history through menus, ephemera, and artifacts reveals the story of American intelligentsia, art, and class. See the romance and nostalgia of fine dining in past times through its menus and ephemera. The story that unfolds is both predictable and surprising.

Spirit brand partners include Don Q Rum, Monkey Shoulder Scotch, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, OM Organic Mixology, Peychaud's, and The Perfect Purée of Napa Valley.

His signature cocktails can be seen and enjoyed in many of North America’s upscale cocktail lounges and restaurants. With nearly 20 years' experience in the hospitality industry, Jonathan shares his insights in the most influential publications from around the world and contributes his unique talents to morning television shows and national radio broadcasts, having numerous programs, among them as NBC’s Weekend Today and Fox & Friends.

Just as an Executive Chef may work his/her way up through the ranks “behind the line,” Jonathan has worked his way up from being a barback at The Russian Tea Room in New York to Owner & President of “The Cocktail Guru™,” a well-respected, full-service beverage consulting firm. Jonathan was trained by cocktail luminaries Steve Olson, Gary Regan, Julie Reiner, and Albert Trummer. Over the years, a style emerged, that of a career bartender interested in studying technique, cocktail history, fresh ingredients, and seasonality. His inspiration lies in unique ingredients and quality, ensuring that every beverage program he creates remains consistent and thrives over time.

In addition, Jonathan and his Cocktail Guru team offer bartender services for special events, mixology classes and demonstrations, and signature drink development for weddings and othere occasions. The Cocktail Guru’s sister site, Wedding Cocktail Design, was created specifically for that couple-to-be seeking a unique specialty cocktail for their wedding.
