About the Chef
Melody Pate has been a professional chef for over 25 years. She began her career at the critically-acclaimed French Room at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas TX. When the Adolphus group purchased the LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort in Naples, FL, Melody moved to the East Coast to assist with the startup of the resort’s restaurant. In 1995 she moved to New Orleans to work with award-winning chef, Kevin Graham at Sapphire. When Sapphire closed, Melody became Sous Chef at Emeril Lagasse’s NOLA in the French Quarter. Then, a call from a former boss during her French Room days sent her packing to the West Coast to become the Chef de Cuisine at the luxurious Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. Melody returned to New Orleans to fulfill her dream to have her own restaurant. In October 2005, she opened Alberta , named for her mother. Although the restaurant received the 2007 Best New Restaurant in New Orleans award by Zagat, the after-effects of Hurricane Katrina resulted in its closing. For the next five years Melody worked as a private chef for a family in New Orleans. Now - it’s kitchen28 LLC making Those Nuts!
