Taste of Louisiana: Creole-Italian Lunch Demonstration

Southern Food & Beverage Museum Founder and President, Liz Williams, is a New Orleans native with Sicilian roots. As a young girl, Liz learned not only the Sicilian culinary traditions, but the Creole twist on Sicilian food, now known as Creole Italian.

Join Liz and SoFAB's Director of Culinary Programming, Jyl Benson, every Thursday from 11 AM to 1 PM in the state-of-the-art Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air for their new Creole Italian lunch demonstration and cooking class. The demonstration class offers an in-depth look into how to create delicious Creole Italian dishes that can be found nowhere else in the world, along with their cultural and historical traditions.

We provide the authentic recipes for you to take home, but in class we'll show you how to "cheat' and make them a little easier. Not only will you enjoy the lunch cooked right in front of you, but you'll also learn the fascinating history of the Sicilian people in New Orleans. Fun fact: At one time there were more Sicilians in New Orleans than in any other place (other than Palermo)!

The atmosphere for the class is relaxed, fun, and friendly, and guests are encouraged to seek advice on cooking, dining, and local interests from Liz and Jyl.

The $40 menu includes:

  • Italian Olive Salad with Fresh Lemon and Provolone
  • Creole Red Gravy with Sweet Italian Sausage and Pasta
  • Made to Order Snoballs
  • Garlic Bread
  • Iced Tea

Admission and a guided private tour of the Southern Food & Beverage Museum led by Liz Williams is included in the ticket price. If you have special dietary needs or questions, please contact Jyl Benson (jyl@southernfood.org) directly at least 48 hours in advance.

Please purchase your tickets at least 48 hours in advance so we can prepare for the correct number of attendees. Within 48 hours, please call the museum at 504-569-0405 to see if there is any room in the class for additional attendees. There is a discount for SoFAB Members.

 Tickets may be refunded or exchanged up to 48 hours prior to the event. After 48 hours no refunds will be available.
