ABOUT STEPHAN
Stephan Berg started in the beverage industry in 1995 and has since worked in a number of cocktail bars, both on land and at sea, where he always had a strong focus on crafting classic drinks. In 2006 he founded the Bitters Blog, Germany’s first weblog fully dedicated to cocktails, mixed drinks, and the craft of bartending. Around the same time, Stephan, along with Alexander Hauck, founded The Bitter Truth. Together they developed a series of cocktail bitters to expand the palate of flavors that bartenders could work with. They were an immediate success throughout the German bar scene, and the brand soon appeared on the shelves of the finest drinking establishments throughout the world.

In 2007 he won "Whisky Expert of the Year" in a national competition staged by the German culinary magazine Der Feinschmecker. In 2008 he launched an online retail store for selected spirits and liqueurs with the goal of expanding the availability of hard-to-find alcoholic beverages in Germany and central Europe. In 2010 The Bitter Truth Celery Bitters won "Best New Product“ at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. Numerous other awards followed. In 2011 The Bitter Truth released Tiki Lovers Rum.

Stephan’s extensive collection of vintage bar and cocktail books compelled him to build The Bitters Blog Library, which includes rare titles dating back to the early days of cocktail history. He can usually be found traveling the globe, always searching for inspiration and the next great cocktail.

ABOUT TIKI LOVERS
Tiki Lovers is the rum brand created by Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck of The Bitter Truth Company. During travels for their brand, Stephan and Alexander often experienced Tiki cocktails that were only so-so. Realizing that the rums used in the drinks were lacking in character, the idea of creating a range of blended rums ideal for use in Tiki cocktails was born.

Throughout Stephan’s earlier years as a seafarer, he traveled the tropics and experienced rum-making first hand in the Caribbean islands of Jamaica, Trinidad, Cuba, and Barbados. It was there he learned about the heritage of rum-making, blending, and drinking.

Alexander, a designer, bartender, and passionate rum aficionado, was an early admirer of Polynesian pop art and culture—even more so after his first visit to the Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale, a Tiki temple built in 1956. It was there that he, intoxicated by Polynesian dance performances and Tiki drinks, scribbled his first design ideas for the label of their new rum brand.
